TIMEHOP

Timehop is an existing app that shows users content from their past in yearly intervals. Our goal was to integrate a group storytelling feature into Timehop. We broadened the reach of the app to focus not only on the past, but to also engage the present and project into the future. This was a group project done as part of General Assembly's UX Immersive.

Synopsis

The app has huge potential due to its ability to aggregate media from many sources, including social media posts and tweets, images, videos, emails, and texts. We got excited about all the ways this could be implemented, but chose to concentrate our efforts on sharing and documenting memories through the use of Storyboxes.

Our research showed that people are overwhelmed by their media. They have privacy concerns about vast networks such as Facebook, and like the idea of being able to create something as a select group. They would like to have photos from group experiences, but often never get to see those photos their friends took.

Storyboxes contain whatever media you choose and have collaboration, sharing, and timing attributes. They can be totally private and viewable only by the creator, like a diary. They can be shared directly with others. They can have multiple contributors.

The timing attribute is especially powerful. To document shared experiences and events, contributors can opt in to have all photos they take in a particular timeframe automatically upload to a target storybox. They can create a storybox to be shared in the future, with the option to publish in intervals. Or one that automatically collects a photo of a particular person over time.

Timehop also has This Day in History posts, which could be a neat social collaboration experience for people to share stories and photos from that day in their own history.
