NY COSTUMES

NY Costumes is a store that claims to have everything costume-related. Their current site is only a catalog of what can be found in the physical store, and does not have a shopping cart. This was an individual project done as part of General Assembly's UX Immersive.

I aimed to provide an efficient online shopping experience while reflecting the some of the quirky vibrancy of the existing brand.

Synopsis

Having everything is great, but can pose a challenge when it comes to findability. Finding items on the current site is a convoluted and precarious process. Through card sorting with users, I established categories to help structure the site. I also found that users looked for items in different ways, and that redundant navigation helped them find things easily.

The open shopping cart really makes an entrance - it would be highly inappropriate for most stores, but I wanted to convey some of the frenzied immersion of the brand experience. I did substantial comparative research on other shopping sites, with a particular focus on the shopping cart experience.

I chose to create a cart that was highly visible and easily editable. The shopping cart buttons are carefully aligned for expediency, avoiding unnecessary jumps around the screen.

NYC is a thriving market for costumes all year round, so I've also integrated an option to purchase online then pick up items in the store.
